Thanks in large part to the internet and subscription services like Netflix, the way we watch TV’s change drastically. We watch a show all at once. We binge. We’re careful not to spoil.
Not only that, but the content’s changed as well. Seasons are shorter, heavily serialized. The “showrunner” has become a frequent function. Shows are purchased as complete packages (sometimes with multiple seasons) outside of the former “pilot” model. There’s more experimentation. The “good drama” has shifted to the small screen.
